Schwinn 270 Recumbent Bike Review: Compared for Fitness

Investing in home gym exercise equipment can be expensive, but it allows you to get into great shape without ever leaving the house. Recumbent bikes are great home workout choices because they offer a low impact workout that varies in intensity while simultaneously significantly improving your physical and mental health.

The Schwinn 270 is one of the most popular recumbent exercise bikes because it comes with a Bluetooth-enabled LCD screen with customizable tracking options as well as a durable, fast-paced inertia drive system. It has a padded, comfortable seat and all 25 resistance levels offer smooth, quiet cycling workouts.

Durable Build Quality

This bike is a durable machine with a single piece aluminum frame that can hold up to 300 lbs. Schwinn is confident in the build quality and offers a 10-year warranty on the Schwinn 270 frame. The frame also comes with an aluminum rail system that allows for an easy adjustment with a seamless slide to find the perfect position for your workout.

Bluetooth connectivity

Bluetooth is a great way to keep yourself motivated. With this bike, you can connect to the Schwinn Trainer App and Explore the World from the comfort of your own home. Kill time and burn calories with longer workouts by connecting to a visual of the world.

Walk-Through Design & Comfortable Seating

This model is designed to be easily accessible. It’s got a wide space between the seat and the front console, allowing users to slide into position with ease. It also has ultra-grip handlebars for your safety with getting on and getting off the machine.

Transport Wheels

Wheels have been designed into the front base of the machine, allowing users to easily transport this machine to wherever they want, whenever they want. Given the lightweight design, hired help will likely not be a requirement.

RideSocial Compatibility

RideSocial is a cycling app similar to Explore the World. Though, with RideSocial, you can create an avatar of yourself and cycle with other friends using the same app. The Schwinn 270 is compatible with this app, and it adds so much more fun to your workouts!

25 Levels of Resistance

This model offers users a physical challenge with the 25 levels of magnetic resistance. When pedaling gets harder and harder, your muscles grow in strength. Users who are looking to tone their legs will love this feature.

4 Custom User Profiles

We highly recommend the Schwinn 270 for families or anyone who has a full house. There are four custom user profiles on this machine! Most machines come with one or two, so this added feature is a major plus. Track your stats and keep them loaded on the machine with this amazing feature.

Dual Track LCD Window

Dual track LCD displays allow you to view multiple stats at once. The screen on this Schwinn is also backlit for a better visual. There is one smaller screen below the larger screen. Each display goals and current/previous stats.

Built-In Fitness Programs

Another major bonus with the purchase of the Schwinn 270 is the 29 built-in workout programs! From easy to advanced challenges, this machine offers you a chance to unapologetically start as a novice, and it will take you through challenges and shape you into a champion!

Heart Rate Monitors

There are pulse grips built into the handlebars that can be found on either side of the seat. You can also use Bluetooth to connect a chest strap monitor to the machine (chest strap not included.)

  • Water Bottle Holder
This bottle holder is located to the left of and just behind the seat for your convenience.
  • MP3 Connectivity
There is a connecting port that allows the user to connect their MP3 player to the front console where they can freely listen to their music through the built-in speakers.
  • Three-Speed Fan
An adjustable three-speed cooling fan was designed for a faster cooling-off experience for each user.
  • USB Port
A USB port is built into this machine as well. This is a favorite among home fitness enthusiasts, as they can always keep their devices charged and functioning during their workouts.
  • Accessory Tray
A device holder is found on the front console for your convenience.
Competitive Warranty

The warranty for this bike is excellent with a 10-year frame warranty, 2-year part warranty, and 1-year warranty on electronic components. The labor warranty is only 90 days, but this standard with this type of exercise equipment.

Schwinn 270 Recumbent Bike is a highly rated and beloved machine. First of all, Bluetooth connectivity is a highly favored feature that allows the user to connect to fun fitness apps such as Explore the World.

The drive system on this recumbent bike is powered by a high-speed, high-inertia, perimeter-weighted flywheel. This allows the machine to run smoothly and quietly for a more enjoyable experience.

The metrics displayed on the console include time, RPM, heart rate, calories, distance, resistance level, speed, course profile, heart rate zone indicator, percentage complete indicator, intensity meter, user indicator, and goal track achievement. There are four available user profiles, making this bike a great option for families.

The seat on this Schwinn is large, well-cushioned, and can be adjusted in a forward and backward motion. There are three-piece pedal cranks, and the pedals are also oversized to fit most users as well as weight.

The static ultra-grip handlebars were designed to help you mount and dismount the machine with ease, and they support the user's balance as well. A water bottle holder is found just behind the seat to the user's left side for their convenience.

Another addition we love about this model is the built-in USB port. It’s the worst feeling when you're ready for an amazing workout and realize your phone isn't charged, so you can't listen to your favorite music or follow your favorite training app program. Now, you don’t have to worry about your battery levels; the USB will keep your phone alive and ready to motivate your exercise.

This model is lightweight at just 86.7 pounds, and it plugs into any standard wall outlet on a 110v-120v circuit. The warranty is excellent for such an affordable machine. The frame is covered for ten years, the parts are covered for two years, the electronics for one year, and the labor is for 90 days.

Some reviewers felt the pulse grip measurements were inconsistent, and there were a few comments about the speakers and the three-speed fan being too weak. Overall the ratings are impressively high. We recommend the Schwinn 270 Recumbent Bike for families as well as seniors. This machine is easy to operate and extremely stable.

All About the Schwinn Exercise Bike Brand

In 1895 a mechanical engineer named Ignaz Schwinn met meat-packing business owner Adolph Frederick William Arnold, and together they created "Arnold Schwinn & Company." This business later became the "Schwinn Bicycle Company."

In the 1960s, when they realized bicycles sold well during certain seasons and not-so-well in others, they created the stationary bike. These bikes didn’t truly begin to take off until 1978.

Because of competitors, Schwinn went under financially, and they had to file for bankruptcy in 1992. They sold the company to Scott Sports Group, and Scott took these bikes in an entirely new direction making top-of-the-line bikes and bringing the company great new success.

Make sure that the screws are tight. Another issue that can arise with the Schwinn 270 is the pulse sensor accuracy. Customers who love this machine said that if you invest in a heart rate strap, your heart rate will be read accurately. This machine is compatible with heart rate chest straps.
