10 Best Cheap Affordable Exercise Spin Bikes Reviewed

If your idea of an intense cardiovascular workout doesn’t involve going to the gym, then getting a home exercise bike is just the thing for you. After all, the perks that come along with working out in the comfort of your own home are undeniable, and having an exercise spin bike makes it easy.

Did you know you can burn over 500 calories with just an hour of cycling? An affordable exercise bike is all you need and it doesn’t put any strain on your joints like many other cardio workouts.

But which aspects determine the the good spin bikes from the bad? And is it even possible to find an affordable spin bike that can also deliver a good workout?

That's exactly what I'll be covering in this review on the best affordable spin bikes available on the market today. I'll go over some important buying considerations for choosing an affordable (yet quality) spin bike and provide you with 10 great bikes to add to your home gym.

Cheap Home Spin Bike Buyer's Guide

Frame & Construction

It's easy to assume that a cheap spin bike will be designed with a cheap frame. This just isn't the case (especially for the 10 bikes I've reviewed below) and it's actually quite easy to find an affordable bike with a solid, sturdy frame.

Look for a spin bike that is built around a steel frame and offers additional supports on the bottom for added stability on different floor surfaces.

Flywheel Weight & Drive System

I won't get into all the details on a spin bike's flywheel mechanism, but I will tell you that the heavier the flywheel, the smoother the ride. Cheaper bikes won't have as heavy of a flywheel as, say, the Peloton, but many of them still come with a decently-weighted flywheel (30+ pounds) that creates a smooth, quiet ride.

Ideally, the bike you choose will be belt-driven. Chain-driven bikes are also available, but belt-driven bikes are typically more durable and require less maintenance.

Comfort & Adjustability

Comfort is something that needs to be considered seriously when buying a spin bike. Cycling is undoubtedly the most excellent and versatile form of cardio, but you won't want to do this cardio if you choose a bike that's uncomfortable.

A bike's comfort level is determined by many things, but the main factor is the seat. Find a bike with an adjustable seat system, ideally one with 4-way adjustment that can be moved both up-and-down and front-to-back. Some even have an additional adjustment for tilting the seat.

An added bonus is adjustment handlebars, especially if multiple people in your household plan on using this bike. You'll also want to pay attention to the pedal system, like whether or not the pedals have straps or a cage design to keep the feet comfortably in place.

Resistance System

There are two types of resistance available on spin bikes - magnetic and friction - and each one has it's own set of pros and cons. My favorite is personally magnetic resistance since friction-resistance bikes require brake pad replacements.

However, a lot of people prefer friction resistance because it provides infinite tension levels, so there's no limit to how hard you can push yourself.

Console & Display

Affordable spin bikes typically have a small, basic display, but at least they have them! It's usually an LCD located at the center of the bike's console, displaying all the important fitness stats like time, distance, and calories.

Some bikes, even the cheaper ones, allow users to track heart rate on this display, so look for that feature if heart rate monitoring is important to you.

Extra Bike Features

Some of my favorite extra features that I've come across with affordable spin bikes are: an integrated water bottle holder, a media tray for holding a phone or tablet, and transportation wheels on the bike's base for easy portability.

Maximum Weight Capacity

All spin bikes have a weight limitation, typically ranging from the low-end of 250 pounds to the high-end of 350 pounds. In most cases, a bike with a higher weight capacity is built with a sturdier frame, so even if you're not anywhere close to the max limit, choosing a spin bike with a high maximum weight is always a good idea.

Value for Money

If you're reading this right now, you're obviously not trying to spend a fortune on your home gym setup. If you were, you'd probably be out buying a Peloton at this very moment.

For that reason, I'll assume you have a specific budget you want to stick to. The good news is that even budget bikes can offer amazing value for money, and it's possible to spend less than $300 and still get all the bells and whistles (or at least a lot of them).

On that note, let's check out the best cheap exercise spin bikes on the market.

If you want a high quality indoor exercise bike that doesn't break the bank, the pooboo D525 spin bike is the best on the market. Even with a low price tag, this bike features a solid, sturdy steel frame and a heavy-duty 35-pound bidirectional flywheel.

All this combined with the bike's belt drive system means a smooth, quiet ride. This bike can support up to 330 pounds of weight, so it's a great choice for individuals who are trying to lose weight. Another great weight-loss feature is the infinite resistance system.

I usually start my workouts with a slow-paced warm up, then push myself for about 30 minutes, then finish with another chilled-out cool down, and this bike made it really easy to choose my resistance accordingly.

The bike features a classic but basic LCD display, water bottle holder, adjustable seat, multi-grip handlebars, and transportation wheels. It is truly a high-quality spin bike for a budget-friendly price. I will say that I could benefit from a more advanced LCD, but it wasn't too much of a problem since the media tray allows me to use my favorite fitness apps on my phone or tablet.

Our rating: 4-8 Star Rating 4.8 / 5

Pros

  • Sturdy construction
  • Infinite resistance system
  • Quiet run
  • Fully adjustable
  • Easy to move with transportation wheels
  • Comfy seat cushion

Cons

  • The LCD display could be more advanced

The upgraded 2020 model of the Cyclace spin bike has really stepped up its game. It’s a non-commercial yet heavy-duty exercise bike that deserves more attention than it gets as of now. At first glance, it looks like a commercial bike, but when you see the price, it's clearly a budget-friendly machine for home gyms.

The bike uses an above-standard 36-pound flywheel, a smooth belt-driven system, an ergonomic design, and the frame is made of thickened steel. I love the addition of the emergency stop feature; I have pets running around the house, so the fact that I can immediately stop the flywheel with the push of a button stood out to me.

One of the major upgrades I noticed from the 2019 model to the current 2020 model is the adjustment system. Thanks to the extended seat adjustability, this bike supports users ranging in height from 5'1" all the way up to 6'5" and can support up to 330 pounds. The company also made the resistance bar stronger, which is more capable of handling long rides.

Other features worth noting are the included water bottle holder, media tray, transportation wheels, and LCD. Similar to the pooboo bike, I'm not a huge fan of the basic LCD (it only displays one stat at a time), but I wouldn't expect anything more advanced considering the price.

Our rating: 4-8 Star Rating 4.8 / 5

Pros

  • Heavy and sturdy construction
  • Easy assembly
  • Great for tall people
  • Immediate stop feature
  • Heavier flywheel than most bikes in this price point
  • Upgraded seat adjustability and improved resistance bar (from the last model)

Cons

  • LCD display looks a bit cheap and can display just one stat at a time

If you would prefer something with a heavy-duty 42-pound flywheel, then the DMASUN indoor spin bike certainly deserves a shout out. This is a highly-rated indoor non-commercial spin bike that I was lucky enough to test out, and all I can say is that the value for money is OUTSTANDING.

Besides the heavy-duty flywheel, the bike uses stylish black-and-red modern design, which many people prefer over the black-and-yellow designs of the previous bikes mentioned. It looks sleek and you'd think it would be more expensive than it actually is based on the design. But enough about looks, let's talk about performance.

The bike supports up to 330 pounds of weight and is made of heavy-duty steel. It uses a friction resistance mechanism, which is adjustable via a conveniently located tension knob. It covers all the bases with transportation wheels, a water bottle holder, a media tray, a simple LCD display, and lots of adjustability for both the seat and handlebars.

One of the noticeable benefits is the high-quality extra-large cushioned seat, which I found to be very comfortable even on long rides. However, I did notice that after using this bike for a while, the seat needed slight re-tightening. It's not a deal-breaker flaw, but it just goes to show that no spin bike is perfect.

Our rating: 4.7 Star Rating 4.7 / 5

Pros

  • Heavy frame and sturdy construction
  • 42 lbs heavy-duty flywheel
  • Modern and sleek design
  • Extra-large cushioned seat
  • Infinite resistance
  • Super stylish - this looks great in my home gym!

Cons

  • LCD displays only one stat at a time
  • The seat occasionally needs re-tightening

If you want a quality, affordable spin bike with above-average LCD monitor that comes with friendly user interface, then ATIVAFIT indoor cycling bike might be your winner.

The bikes I've covered so far have all been fairly basic in terms of LCD displays, so I was pleased to find that this one is slightly more advanced. By that, I mean that it's larger and displays stats more clearly, and although it doesn't compare to the display you'll find on the Peloton bike, it's pretty great considering the price tag.

The combination of the magnetic resistance and belt driven mechanism makes the bike produce less noise - another characteristic I've come to appreciate for all of my home gym equipment. It comes with a 35-pound flywheel, great adjustability, and aesthetically-pleasing black-and-silver design.

The downside is that it supports only 275 pounds of weight. However, good adjustability goes a long way, and this one is fully adjustable. It can support users up to 6’5”, so as long as you're within the weight limit, short and tall people alike can ride comfortably on the ATIVAFIT bike.

I really like that ATIVAFIT has faith in its products and shows it with the 12-month return warranty and lifetime parts-replacement warranty.

Our rating: 4.7 Star Rating 4.7 / 5

Pros

  • Professional LCD monitor with user-friendly interface
  • Quiet run
  • Great user height support
  • Lifetime-replacement warranty
  • Neutral black and silver coloring
  • Emergency brake lever

Cons

  • Low 275 lbs weight support

If you’d prefer a cycling bike with an above-average frame made of 50mm thickened steel tube, then the Joroto X2 spin bike is worth considering. It uses a 35-pound bi-directional flywheel, magnetic resistance and belt driven mechanism, which makes the bike virtually silent. Even though the footprint is small, there's no denying that this is a solid bike

The previous model supported 280 pounds, but this one can now support up to 300 pounds of weight and it has an improved in-seam height range from 27.5” to 36.2”. It's fully adjustable; my friend, who is about 5 inches taller than me, rode this directly after I did with no problems finding a comfortable position.

Other features worth noting include transportation wheels, a water bottle holder (actually, two), caged-toe pedals, an emergency stop brake, and a spacious media tray. The LCD isn't anything to rave about, but that's no surprise based on the price.

Joroto is well-known for their top notch customer service, so even though it's not the most well-known brand, you don’t have to worry about that. This is something I consider very important when buying fitness equipment, especially since I tend to need help with the assembly process.

Our rating: 4.6 Star Rating 4.6 / 5

Pros

  • Very sturdy and stable construction
  • Unlimited magnetic resistance
  • Good customer service
  • Lots of bike features
  • Improved adjustability from last model

Cons

  • 300-pound limit is low compared to others
  • Very simple LCD monitor

Get in shape and stay fit without leaving the house with the SF-B901 Pro Indoor Cycling Bike from Sunny Health & Fitness. This is an ideal home exercise bike for both beginners and serious cycling enthusiasts looking to take their fitness routine to an advanced level.

It’s one of the most affordable indoor spinning bikes on the market while still offering all the necessary features you’d expect from the fancier models. I love that this model can be purchased with either a chain-drive or belt-drive. Although I personally prefer belt-driven bikes for the lower maintenance needs, it's always nice to have options, and Sunny Health gives that to you.

The bike is equipped with a 40-pound flywheel, which is perhaps one of the best features of the SF-B901. This flywheel is designed to maintain momentum smoothly and consistently, and it doesn't disappoint on that front. And since it utilizes friction resistance, the tension has no limits.

Something that stood out to me immediately is the bike's leveling system. There are four levelers located at the base to prevent wobbling and jerks while riding, even on uneven surfaces.

Another much-appreciated feature is the fully adjustable seat and handlebar system. The seat is 4-way adjustable and the handlebars are 2-way adjustable, so it's really easy to tailor this bike to the perfect position based on your height. However, I will say that the seat itself is a bit hard, but this can be replaced easily.

Our rating: 4.3 stars 4.3 / 5

Pros

  • Sturdy frame
  • Smooth ride
  • Affordable
  • Reputable brand
  • Heavier than average flywheel
  • Ergonomic handlebars with good adjustment

Cons

  • Packaging could be better
  • Seat could be of better quality

If you're looking for something ultra-cheap, I'd recommend the Sunny Health & Fitness SF-B1203 Indoor Cycle Trainer. This versatile home exercise bike offers all the necessary elements for a wonderful cardio workout along with the features all fitness enthusiasts could think of, but at a price that you can afford.

It’s an ideal fitness machine for any rider’s skill level – possibly one of the best exercise bikes currently available in the less than $200 price point. The LCD screen is a major plus - I didn't even expect a bike this affordable to have one - since it makes it easy to track your progress at every level and keep you motivated.

With the convenient tension knob, you can switch back-and-forth the intensity of your workout. With just a simple twist, you can increase and decrease your resistance level so that you never have to stop pedaling. You can choose between either felt resistance or magnetic resistance, and both options are really easy to adjust.

The one flaw I found related to the bike's pedal system. The pedals feel low in quality, and even though the cage design is a nice touch, the pedals felt flimsy under the weight of my feet. Also, be weary that this bike isn't great for overly tall people and the max user weight is just 220 pounds.

In short, the SF-B1203 is perfectly tailored to meet most user’s fitness needs, especially if those needs include sticking to a budget.

Our rating: 4.2 Star Rating 4.2 / 5

Pros

  • Comfortable seat
  • Easy to put together
  • Great price
  • Multiple resistance options
  • Lightweight and small footprint - great for tight spaces

Cons

  • Pedals could be of better quality
  • Not made for tall people
  • Low weight capacity

Another great ultra-budget-friendly option is the Marcy Mag Upright Exercise Bike. At first glance, I was a little bit skeptical about the design since the frame looks completely unlike any of the other affordable spin bikes on this list. However, that skepticism was put to rest as soon as I started riding.

The main difference between this bike and others is that the flywheel is enclosed, but this doesn't do anything to hinder performance. In fact, I found the enclosed flywheel design to be super quiet as well as extremely safe. The rest of the bike frame is made from 14-gauge steel that has been powder-coated to give it a fresh, clean look - it can hold a max of 300 pounds.

This lightweight and compact home exercise bike is tailored-made to track your fitness goals easily and more efficiently. This is all thanks to the large console display, which tracks your progress level regularly. Just like the others, the LCD is pretty basic, but at this point (and this price point), I'm used to that.

It’s equipped with magnetic resistance system which ensures smooth and quiet pedal action. I noticed that the resistance didn't change much between a few of the settings, so this could use some improvement. The pedals are counter-balanced and come with fully adjustable foot straps. So as far as the pedals go, I'd say the Marcy Upright Bike scores a solid A.

It also includes an adjustable seat to accommodate large riders and foam-padded handlebars for a comfy grip. I don't love that the seat can only be adjusted in 2 directions - up and down - rather than the standard 4-way adjustment.

Our rating: 4.2 Star Rating 4.2 / 5

Pros

  • Easy assembly
  • Small – saves a lot of space
  • Ultra affordable
  • Quiet
  • High weight capacity for the price
  • Unique look (enclosed flywheel design)

Cons

  • Seat could be more comfortable - and more adjustable
  • Tension settings could use levels with bigger resistance difference

The Body Rider Fan Bike is a fun alternative to a traditional home exercise bike. It's the first air-resistance bike I've covered (and it will be the only one), so if you're interested in infinite tension through air resistance, this is the one to go with.

Although it's not a traditional spin bike per se, the Body Rider is ideal for total body workouts and upper body training thanks to its moving arms. Since the flywheel works as a fan to move air through the bike and create resistance, many people assume this bike will be loud. In my experience, it was actually very quiet - not as quiet as a magnetic spin bike, but still pretty good.

I think the thing I liked best is that this bike targets the arms and legs at the same time to ensure a full-body workout, specifically affecting the cardio and strength training. I can honestly say that my arms were sore the next day after riding this bike for 30 minutes.

It doesn’t come with transport wheels so it can be difficult to move, but luckily it's less than 50 pounds, which is quite lightweight compared to other bikes reviewed. Speaking of weight, the max weight capacity is 250 pounds, so consider this if you're near or over that limit.

One flaw I experienced was the not-so-great seat cushion and the inability to replace the seat, but I've recently heard that Body Rider updated the bike with a more comfortable, softer seat.

Our rating: 4 Star Rating 4.0 / 5

Pros

  • Sturdy construction
  • Quiet run compared to other fan bikes
  • Good price
  • Infinite air resistance
  • Awesome total-body workout

Cons

  • Seat is not comfortable (note: Body Rider recently updated the included seat)
  • Seat cannot be replaced

  • TRACK YOUR WORKOUT – LCD computer console...
  • SPECS – Maximum weight capacity of 250lb;...

For an insanely low price, the Velocity Exercise CHB-U2101 Magnetic Upright Bike is a solid home exercise bike that comes with all the essential features to make for a comfortable and efficient workout. It's also small, so it's my go-to pick if you're limited on space in your home gym.

This might be the basic model with no fancy features, quite opposite of what you’d expect from a high-end upright bike, but it does offer the same cardio benefits of outdoor cycling. So if you're looking for a no-frills bike without all the bells and whistles that simply gets the job done, this is an awesome choice.

In terms of features, it does have a few, like 8 levels of magnetic tension control, ergonomic pedals, a 2-way adjustable seat, built-in transport wheels, and a display to track your progress. The bike itself is only 41 pounds with small dimensions, so just like the previous Marcy bike I reviewed, it's great for small spaces.

And now for the bad. The flywheel is less than 9 pounds, so you won't get the same ultra-smooth ride as you will with a 35-pound flywheel. However, if you want something cheap, small, and easy to use, it's still a great choice in my book.

Our rating: 4 Star Rating 4.0 / 5

Pros

  • Easy to assemble
  • Lightweight – easy to move
  • Small footprint - great for small spaces
  • Easy adjustment system

Cons

  • Construction could be better
  • Wobbles on certain floor types
  • Light flywheel

People Also Ask (FAQs)

What are the benefits of getting an exercise bike?

A home exercise bike is the perfect exercise companion because it’s an excellent form of cardiovascular exercise. Cycling is one of the least complicated ways to fit exercise into your daily routine and it can be enjoyed by people of all ages, from children to adults. Plus, spinning is a fun way to stay healthy and fit.

Even 30 minutes of cycling per day relaxes your major leg muscles and helps lower blood pressure, which in turn reduces the risk of heart-related diseases.

To top it off, cycling helps both physical and mental health, and it reduces the chance of many health related problems, both mental and physical. Studies suggest regular cycling also helps in building brain cells that are responsible for memory functions.

Whether you’re trying to stay in shape or looking to shed some extra pounds, the best home exercise bike will help you achieve your fitness goals.

Which type of bike is best for me?

Now that you understand the many health benefits of cycling, it’s time to choose the right bike for YOU. There is an insane amount of options available, and although I personally love spin bikes, there are a few more bike styles to choose from, like:

  • Recumbent Bikes - Great for anyone who prefers a reclined riding style or is experiencing stability/joint issues
  • Upright Bikes - Great for anyone who is comfortable riding in an upright style and prefers the traditional road-bike feel
  • Air Bikes - Great for anyone who doesn't mind a bulkier bike in exchange for infinite resistance levels (this is perfect for CrossFit and HIIT workouts)

It’s all about personal preference, and with something for everyone out there, you have to make sure you find the perfect match for you based on your cycling preferences and fitness needs. For instance, if you're a senior trying to increase mobility while improving cardiovascular health, the recumbent bike is probably a much better choice for you than a spin bike or upright bike.

Can I lose belly fat on an exercise bike?

Since an exercise bike targets the lower body, most people assume that cycling isn't a good choice for targeting the belly region. This isn't true at all! Cycling works the entire body, and an upright spin bike in particular engages the core to promote a stronger, flatter stomach.

Conclusion

Like the saying goes, you’re the author of your own health, so everything depends on how you choose to write your fitness story. Although buying a bike won't immediately strengthen your body or allow you to lose weight (you need to actually ride to do that), it's a great place to start your story.

The good news is that even an affordable bike can get you there, and you don't have to break the bank to see benefits. If you're looking for something cheap, my suggestion is to set your budget, list out the bike features that are most important to you, and compare both of those things to the list of bikes reviewed above.

You should have no trouble finding a bike that meets both your budget and fitness needs. However, if you're still not sure, I love the pooboo model as it offers excellent features and amazing value for money, so you can't go wrong with this one.
