Proform Endurance 520 E Reviews (Is It A Good iFit Model?)

Out of all the cardio equipment available, the elliptical is often overlooked. However, it’s a fantastic way of improving your overall fitness with enormous benefits for your heart & lung health.

ProForm has developed an excellent elliptical that would make a perfect addition to any home gym. This article on the ProForm Endurance 520 E reviews every aspect of the elliptical and gives you all you need to know about buying this popular product.

The ProForm Endurance 520 E is an excellent looking compact elliptical crammed with features to ensure you have the best workout every time you use it.

Features such as iFit capability, 18 resistance levels, and even a selection of incline options provide you with everything you need to get the heart pumping.

While the machine is brilliant, it’s not for everyone, and if you have high fitness levels, you may struggle to achieve the intensity you desire. Although I must admit, the ProForm Endurance 520 E is better than most other ellipticals.

The Good

  • Oversized pedals for comfort.
  • Easy to move around your home gym.
  • Free 30-day iFit membership
  • Solid and robust machine.
  • Adjustable incline up to 20 degrees.

The Bad

  • The 5” LCD display is basic.
  • The parts warranty could be longer.
  • Poor customer service.

Unique Features Of The Proform Endurance 520 E Elliptical

The ProForm Endurance 520 E elliptical is one of the most value-packed pieces of home gym equipment you can get. You’ll be hard pressed to find another elliptical with so many features for such a small price.

It’s a brilliant investment for anyone looking to improve their cardiovascular health in their home gym.

18 Digital Levels Of Resistance

The ProForm Fitness Endurance 520 E elliptical comes with 18 digital resistance levels easily adjusted using the display monitor touch buttons. As you change the levels, the transition is smooth and frictionless; this is mainly down to the SMR technology, which I’ll cover in a moment.

Oversized Pedals

ProForm has gone out of its way to provide you with a super comfortable elliptical. One of the stand-out comfort features I’ve noticed is the oversized adjustable pedals. The pedals are large enough so your feet aren't constantly hitting the sides during training, and they have improved grip to maximize your stability.

Front-Mounted Transport Wheels

The front-mounted transport wheels are a game-changer for the ProForm Endurance 520 E elliptical. They allow you to move the machine around your home gym effortlessly, so you can push the machine to the side when it’s not in use, making room for other gym equipment.

5” Backlit Display

The 5” LCD backlit display provides you with all of the information you’d expect to see, such as speed, RPM, distance, time, and calories/hr.

The display also allows you to stream interactive iFit workouts to your smart devices.

Interactive iFit Workouts

The interactive fitness app iFit is one of the world’s leading exercise apps.

It provides you with trainer-led workouts from the comfort of your home gym.

You’ll have a vast selection of on-demand sessions available, plus you’ll be able to join thousands of people on the daily live workouts hosted by some of the world’s best trainers.

20-Degree Power Adjustable Incline

If you manage to work your way through the 18 resistance levels and wish to have a new challenge, the ProForm Endurance 520 E elliptical machine has a built-in power ramp capable of reaching a 20-degree incline.

This will not only increase the difficulty of your workouts but further engages your lower body while burning more calories.

Silent Magnetic Resistance (SMR)

Gone are the days of the noisy elliptical, the ProForm Endurance 520 E uses state-of-the-art Silent Magnetic Resistance (SMR) to produce a smooth and silent workout experience. This gives you peace of mind knowing you won't be receiving complaints from your neighbors or, worse... your partner. It has 18 SMR resistance levels for you to work through.

Inertia-Enhanced Flywheel

The ProForm Endurance 520 E elliptical machine uses an inertia enhanced flywheel to help produce a smooth resistance without any jerkiness. With the addition of the SMR, you’ll have one of the smoothest workouts on this elliptical.

Assembly

When it comes to the ProForm Endurance 520 E elliptical assembly, I found the instruction manual adequate. It provides you with all the necessary information you need to build the product.

You’ll need basic tools such as a Phillips screwdriver, rubber mallet, and a wrench set. While I found assembling the machine straightforward, this might not be the case if you aren’t familiar with using tools or assembling home gym equipment.

Due to the weight of the ProForm Endurance 520 E elliptical, I recommend that you have someone help you build the machine, as some parts can be awkward by yourself. Read our full article about elliptical machine weight here!

Once the elliptical is built, it looks impressive. It has a slick design and will look great in any home gym. Plus, it doesn’t take up a tonne of space which is a bonus. You’ll need roughly 1-2 hours to build the ProForm Endurance 520 E.

Design & Features When Working Out

The first thing you’ll notice when using the ProForm Endurance 520 E is how smooth the movement is.

This is mainly due to the flywheel and the SMR technology, creating near-silent movement and seamless transitions between the resistance levels.

However, the ProForm Endurance 520 E only comes with a 15lb flywheel which is relatively light for an elliptical. Ideally, you want to be using a minimum of 20lbs, but I must admit that ProForm has done a great job of using the 18 SMR levels to bypass the problem of a lighter flywheel; I’m pretty impressed.

ProForm Endurance 520 E reviews

I was a big fan of the buttons on the display screen that quickly change the resistance levels. The iFit connectivity was also a brilliant feature that provided thousands of workouts right at my fingertips.

If you’re relatively new to exercising, then you’ll love the ProForm Endurance 520 E elliptical. But, more advanced users might find the machine too easy and would require a machine with a heavier flywheel.

Using The Console

I loved the simplicity of the ProForm Endurance 520 E elliptical monitor; it clearly displayed all of the relative information you need, such as speed, distance, calories, resistance level, and more.

However, I feel the 5” LCD screen is dated and could be updated. While the quick access buttons are a brilliant feature, I’d love to see a fully integrated touch screen display on the ProForm Endurance 520 E.

Another aspect to consider is that you’ll need to use a smart device with your screen if you want to use the iFit membership. Again, having a built-in smart screen would improve the 5020 E experience.

Price & Warranty

The ProForm Endurance 520 E elliptical sits toward the lower end of the spectrum of the price chart. You’ll struggle to find a decent elliptical with so many features for under $700. Other models, such as the NordicTrack Se7i, cost almost double that price at $1300.

While the ProForm Endurance 520 E elliptical might not be the best elliptical on the market, it packs a punch for the price, making it one of my favorite ProForm offerings.

One of my only peeves with the ProForm Endurance 520 E elliptical is that the parts warranty could be better. Other than that, it’s great. It’s best suited for someone who wants to have all the benefits of an elliptical without the huge price tag.

When comparing the ProForm Endurance 520 E Vs Sole E95, I found that the Sole E95 offered far more features such as chest strap compatibility, heavier flywheel, cooling fans, and more.

However, this is mainly due to the significant difference in the price. The Sole E95 is over $1000 dearer than the ProForm Endurance 520 E, so if you’re looking for a cheap and cheerful elliptical, ProForm is the best option for you.

It’s also worth noting the Sole E95 doesn’t have iFit compatibility, but it does allow you to send workout data to another device.

Both the ProForm Endurance 520 E and NordicTrack SE7i come with a 30-day iFit membership and have a 5” LCD display.

However, the NordicTrack has a few additional features that the ProForm doesn’t. The built-in cooling fans, a slightly heavier weight capacity, and 4 additional digital resistance levels are some of the most noticeable

But, I feel the NordicTracks price lets it down, as it’s almost double the cost of the ProForm Endurance 520 EFor me, the NordicTrack doesn’t provide many additional features to justify its price tag; I’d stick with the ProForm.

Proform 520 E Vs Precor 576i

  • Cross Ramp: 15 to 40 degrees (adjustable)
  • Stride Lengths: 21.2 to 24.7 inches
  • Resistance: 20 Levels (18-720 watts)

Firstly, I need to address the price tag... at almost $4000, the Precor 576i is definitely toward the high end of the market.

While it does beat the ProForm Endurance 520 E regarding features, e.g., being able to use greater inclines (up to 40 degrees). I feel the Precor’s display screen massively lets it down; it’s heavily dated, more so than the ProForm’s 5” LCD screen.

If you want an elliptical for your home gym, I’d find it hard to justify spending $4000 on the Precor when the ProForm Endurance 520 E will cost you under $700.
