Sole E95 Elliptical Reviews: Is It A Good Gym Class Machine?

One of the most popular cardio machines in any commercial gym is the elliptical machine. Firstly, they are extremely forgiving for people with stiff or aging joints, and secondly, they give you a great aerobic workout that utilizes both your upper and lower body simultaneously.

If you want to shed calories and train endurance in both your arms and legs, look no further. One of the most popular elliptical machines is the Sole E95. In this review, we will answer any questions that we predict you might have about how effective this model is and if it is a worthwhile investment to your home gym setup.

The Sole E95 is one of the best on the market for a reason. With recent upgrades, including the option to dock your phone and sync up your entertainment, sticking with it through those long steady-state sessions has never been easier. What's more, you can even sync up to Sole's fitness app, allowing for long-term tracking and performance monitoring.

There is a vast choice when it comes to angle, incline, and difficulty settings, too, with electronic controls that shift quickly and smoothly.

Here is our quick summary of the good and the bad points.

The Good

  • Amazing digital screen
  • Mobile phone sync for entertainment, Netflix, etc
  • Precise and quick difficulty changes, incline changes, and speed changes.
  • Sync to the Sole fitness app
  • Pulse and heart monitoring

The Bad

  • Doesn’t fold down for storage/transport
  • People with shorter strides may find it difficult
  • Lack of aftermarket workout downloads.

Unique Features Of The Sole E95 Elliptical

There is a reason why the Sole E95 wins so many best elliptical awards every single year. This is a top-shelf offering, and it is kind to newcomers and cardio bunnies alike. It delivers an experience that is nearly as good as a commercial gym while fitting into the higher end of the home-gym budget.

While this model is a more commercial elliptical, there are many different kinds of ellipticals on the market.

So what set’s the E95 apart from the competition?

Let's take a look at some of the stand-out features of the Sole E95 Elliptical.

Large LCD Display Console

Well, first things first, let’s talk about the incredible display console that Sole has added here.

This panel looks great and means that all of the text is crystal clear and easy to read.

It also means that when you are watching your programs or Netflix during your workouts that you are getting the best possible viewing experience.

When you are trying to squeeze in that extra 5 minutes, that extra mile, that extra 50 calories, this can be the difference between failure and success. Don't forget to check out our guide on getting rid of cellulite with elliptical training!

Smooth Resistance

When using a cardio machine like an elliptical, you always want the experience to be as smooth as possible to make it easier on your joints and muscles. On cheaper machines, the resistance can be relentless, and this leads to strain and fatigue much quicker than on a high-end machine like the Sole E95, which has velvety smooth resistance and changes.

Built-In Pulse Sensors

When your cardio workouts begin to evolve into more serious matters, being able to monitor your pulse and heart rate during an exercise is really beneficial.

This will allow you to undertake different workouts, like HIIT workouts, where you will be aiming to raise your heart rate to a certain level for quick bursts before letting it drop again. With pulse controls on both handles, the Sole E95 presents accurate and speedy readings with ease.

Multiple Levels Of Incline

With treadmills and ellipticals, a great way to add some variety to your workouts is to adjust the machine's incline. The body changes quickly when you can shock it, and swapping from speed to incline is a serious shock. By utilizing the multiple levels of incline on offer with the Sole E95, you can boost your cardio to new heights.

Whisper Quiet Drive System

Less important on commercial machines but massively important for some when it comes to their home gyms, quiet machines are perfect for those who like to work out late at night or early in the morning and don't want to wake up their spouse or kids or neighbors.

SOLE E95 Elliptical

The E95 comes with their special whisper quiet drive system, which hardly makes a noise, even in the most intense of settings.

Bluetooth Audio Speakers

One of the benefits of workout out at home is that you can listen to music without headphones. With built-in Bluetooth audio speakers on the E95, this is even easier and freer. Simply sync up your phone, and you are good to go.

USB Port

Life is all about the little things, and the experts at Sole know it. We love that they have added a USB port to their machine. This little quality of life upgrade means you don't have to worry about your phone running out of battery during your workouts and can save your bacon if you forgot to charge your phone before bed.

10 Preset Workout Programs

The key to long-term success is to vary your workouts when they start to become stale. This is really important for those that are training to a high level of fitness. Luckily, the Sole E95 makes this really easy by giving you 10 preset workout programs that you can cycle through.

So, now that you know a little bit more about the features that set the E95 apart from the competition, how does it fare in the traditional sense? How does it do in the fundamentals?

Let's start with the assembly and the maintenance of the machine. While the toolkit leaves a bit to be desired, you do get all of the tools that you need to assemble the kit inside the box, which is a plus in our eyes.

The box is pretty heavy, and we would recommend that you use two people to carry it and to assemble it. You can definitely assemble it by yourself; it will just take a little bit longer.

Maintaining the machine is pretty important as there have been several complaints that the machine can rust quickly if you leave it sweaty and wet. We advise everyone to wipe down their machines properly after use, and this applies to all machines, but this advice is crucial in preserving an expensive device like this.

Now, let's get to the actual feel of the machine. The Sole E95 is a smooth ride; let's get that straight.

The resistance feels just right and even better; it is blissfully kind to joints, which is really nice to see in a cardio machine with so many moving parts.

Changing incline and difficulty is a breeze and it happens quickly, unlike the slow increase you see on cheaper devices.

SOLE E95 Elliptical with Built in Speakers

We do have one gripe with the Sole E95; if you have shorter strides due to your height or hip mobility, you might find the E95 a little bit oversized and difficult to use. For more info, read through our guide on elliptical stride length by height.

Unfortunately, it seems the only way to increase the stride length is to increase the incline too. Not massive problems, but when you buy a machine as prestigious as this, it's important information to know.

Then you have the console, which is pretty advanced and innovative. You get accurate pulse readers in both palms and a screen that is vivid, vibrant, and easy to read. Connect your phone for easy integration of apps like Netflix and Youtube and sync up via the Sole app in order to track long-term goals.

You get all of the standard monitoring systems, too, like calorie burn, distance traveled, time spent on the machine, etc. You also have the ability to hook up your phone to the external Bluetooth speakers so you can listen to your music without having to wear earphones or headphones.

When it comes to the price tag, you get what you pay for, and you get a whole lot of machine with the E95. Sitting at the top of the price range, this is a high-end model. Do we think it is worth the price tag? Absolutely.

The final thing to note is that Sole offers an incredible lifetime guarantee on the motors and frames of their machines. This means that you are protected from any problems for the whole machine except the display panel. They even offer a multi-year guarantee on parts and any labor costs for repair too.

Comparing The E95 With Other Sole Ellipticals

Sole is one of the best brands on the market for making machines that smash it out of the park in terms of effectiveness and efficiency. In the same range as the E95 are the E25, E35, E95s, E55, and E98. Yeah, we know, complicated, right? Don't worry! Jump over to our Sole elliptical review guide for more an in-depth analysis.

Let's break it down briefly here for you; here are how the different models differ from each other.

The E35, which is essentially the same as the E25, has many quality of life upgrades like a quieter drive system, slightly higher max weight of 375lbs, bigger screen, and pulse monitors in the handles. For slightly more buck, you get a whole lot more bang.

Next, we have the E55, the middle range unit. This model is nearly as impressive as the E95. It comes with the same Bluetooth functionality and a great 9 inch screen. It has similar workouts and a great drive-train. It doesn't quite match the E95 in terms of smoothness and joy to use, though, and it doesn't have external speakers.

These are the lower down models in the range, but what about the ones higher up?

Well, first, you have the E95S, which allows you to change the stride length, as you may have guessed. Unfortunately, this is the only upgrade it has over the E95, but it could be crucial if you felt the stride length on the E95 was too small for you.

Finally, we have the E98, the Rolls Royce of the Sole elliptical range. This model is classed as a light commercial and is a beefed-up version of the E95 with a few bells and whistles added. For example, you get a chest strap, water bottle holder, cooling fans, and an adjustable stride length.

While we are not sure that the added cost is worth it, for those that want the best, the E98 is definitely where we would spend our money.

Comparing Sole E95 With Similar Elliptical Brands

We have talked about how the E95 compares to its brothers from Sole, but how does it compare to competition from other brands in the same price range?

Let’s have a look, shall we?

If you have done any research before this point, you have probably considered either the NordicTrack SE7i or the ProForm Endurance 520 E. Both are excellent brands and similar in terms of value and quality to the Sole E95.

The NordicTrack does have more workout programs and build quality that is equal to the E95. However, it has a smaller stride length of 18," and the screen is much smaller. You also have a lower weight capacity of 325lbs.

The ProForm comes with a much lower price tag, which affects it in many ways. First, the weight limit is only 300lbs, and the screen is only 5" and much less vibrant. You do get a 20" stride length, though, and a USB charger which is a nice touch. If you want a more budget-friendly option, it's still a great machine, but it doesn't compare to the NordicTrack of the Sole E95.

How To Take Care Of Your Sole E95 Elliptical

When you are purchasing a machine with a price tag like this, you want it to last you as long as possible without needing replacement or parts fixing. This will require some work on your end.

Firstly, the cardinal rule is that you should always wipe down your machines after use. Do this one thing, and you will ensure your machine lasts a lot longer than if you do not.

For more in-depth maintenance, you should use a swab and rubbing alcohol for any moving parts with a plastic scraper for stubborn muck. Afterward, apply some lubricant to any moving part or rail.

For the screen, Sole has included a self-diagnostic maintenance mode. Simply hold down stop, start and enter for five seconds. If there are any serious problems, it will tell you after entering maintenance mode.
