10 Best Women’s Weight Lifting Belts: Reviewed & Compared

All About Weight Lifting Belts

The best women’s weight lifting belts are designed to provide support while weight lifting. Many people think that these belts actually make the individual who is wearing one indestructible or superhuman. This isn’t the case at all.

Using one of the best women’s weight belts while doing lifting exercises in your home gym or traditional gym won’t give you the power to lift more than usual. But what they can do is give you some stability while lifting weights. The best women’s weight lifting belts are designed to provide plenty of support while forcing your torso muscles to stay engaged while lifting.

Weight lifting exercises are done using the strength in both your core (trunk area) and your legs. You need to keep your core stable and utilize all of the muscles in your torso and back. Otherwise, you’ll end up hurting yourself. It sounds easy to go through the process of using those trunk muscles when lifting, but in reality, most people forget in the middle of their reps.

This causes them to bend at the back, which can be dangerous and painful. Luckily, with one of the best women’s weight lifting belts, there’s an automatic reminder to engage those muscles. The belt will fit tightly around your waist to regularly give your body the cue to tighten those muscles while doing your exercises.

Although this belt is made for both men and women, we’ve placed it on our list of the best women’s weight lifting belts because it’s designed to be strong and last for years. This is a belt for women who are serious about their lifting exercises – even if they work out in a home gym.

The Dark Iron Fitness Genuine Leather Pro Weight Lifting Belt is made of Buffalo hide leather. The fact that the manufacturer used genuine leather means that it will stand the test of time. On top of this, it’s designed with a double row of holes (two per adjustment size), making the buckle even sturdier.

This belt is both IPF and USAPL (United States of American Powerlifting) approved and it was designed to meet these organizations' specifications. The belt is fairly flexible, not stiff, so it won’t dig into your torso while you complete your weight lifting exercises. It’s built to withstand 600 pounds worth of lifting prowess without breaking.

The Genuine Leather Pro comes with a lifetime replacement guarantee. If it ever breaks, the company will replace it for free. This belt comes in five different sizes, ranging from extra small to extra large, and will fit waists ranging from 23 inches to 49 inches. It’s 4 inches wide, so if you have a longer torso, you might want to consider a 6-inch belt instead.

The Element 26 Self-Locking Weight Belt made our list of the best women’s weight lifting belts because of its heavy duty construction. This belt is made of premium nylon (breaking one of our rules), but it does have a metal buckle.

The Element 26 Self-Locking Belt comes in six different colors – red, black, white, brown, green, and purple. It’s available in four different sizes as well, ranging from extra small (a minimum of 23 inches) to XX-large (a maximum of 50 inches.)

It’s been approved by the USAW (USA Weightlifting) and Crossfit experts. On top of that, it has a lifetime guarantee. If it breaks, then the company will replace it for free.

But just like all belts, the Element 26 has some cons. According to some reviews, even the smallest size is too bit for some women, so if you're extremely petite, make sure to check that the belt will fit before buying.

This weight lifting belt breaks all of the rules, but does so in a way that provides plenty of support for female weightlifters. If you want a solid belt that won’t move when you’re lifting, then look no further.

The RitFit Weight Lifting Belt is the only belt on our list that will fit a 22-inch waist. This is its smallest size (small, of course), and it goes up to double extra large, where it will fit a 59-inch waist – the biggest on our list.

Although this belt is made of nylon, it is extra-thick, and six inches wide, which will provide plenty of support. It’s also waterproof, and it comes with a lifetime manufacturer guarantee. You have your choice of two different color combinations as well as five different adjustable sizes.

If you have a small torso or you like to have lots of mobility when lifting, then the 6-inch width might be a problem for you. Aside from the fact that it's made from nylon, that's really the only drawback of the RitFit belt.

Our rating: 4.5 Star Rating 4.5 / 5

  • The largest and smallest belt on our list
  • Lifetime manufacturer guarantee
  • 6 inches wide and very thick material
  • Affordable

The MRX Boxing and Fitness Belt met all of our expectations. This is why I've placed it on the list of the best women’s weight lifting belts. It is designed to last for quite some time, providing support all the while. If you’re serious about your weight lifting, then this could be the belt for you.

The MRX Boxing and Fitness Belt is designed to provide support during a number of different weight lifting exercises. It comes in a whopping six different sizes, ranging from small (a 27-inch waist) to triple extra large (a 50-inch waist).

It’s available in six different colors: brown, pink, camo pink, camo grey, black, and purple. The belt is four inches wide and comes with an adjustable stainless steel buckle. It’s made of genuine leather. It doesn't come with a warranty, and some reviewers have complained that the belt runs small, but all in all, this is a winner in my book.

Although this belt doesn’t meet all of the buying guide requirements for the best women’s weight lifting belts, I've placed it on the list because it does have some excellent qualities. This belt is designed exclusively for women and is fashion-forward. The first two on the list are more unisex, as they will fit men as well. That isn’t the case with this weightlifting belt.

The Iron Bull Strength Women’s Weight Lifting Built is equally wide, meaning that the front is just as wide as the back. It has a Velcro closure, and I did warn you about belts with Velcro closures since they have a higher risk of coming undone while you do your exercises.

With that said, this belt has a number of features that propel it to the top, like the fact that it’s five inches wide and extremely light. It comes in four different sizes, ranging from extra small (23 inches) to large (46 inches.)

It’s made of lightweight manmade material, but is very tough. The buckle might be made of Velcro, but it’s reinforced with steel. Some of our reviewers stated that the belt ran big, so keep this in mind when purchasing one.

Our rating: 4.2 Star Rating 4.2 / 5

Pros

  • Designed specifically for women – not unisex
  • Velcro closure reinforced with steel
  • Easy to put on
  • Lightweight
  • Stylish

Cons

  • Made of man-made materials (no leather)
  • Some reviewers had a hard time keeping it in place

This weight lifting belt by Flexz Fitness is worth every penny. It’s a fashion-forward belt that comes in 5 color options, making you stand out on the weight lifting floor. At the same time, it provides plenty of support and is designed to stay in place without movement or slippage.

I've placed this on the list of the best women’s weight lifting belts because it fits all of the criteria. It closes with a buckle, is 10mm thick, and consists of man-made (faux) leather and steel. This belt is available in 6 different sizes – extra small, small, medium, large, extra large, and double extra large, ensuring that it will fit waists sizes 24 inches to 46 inches in diameter.

Each belt size is adjustable, thanks to the series of holes built into it. The Flexz Fitness Power Lifting and Weight Lifting Belt is the same width all around, providing you with plenty of support. It’s also competition safe, as well as extremely durable. This belt will last you for years as long as you treat it properly.

It’s built to match International Powerlifting Foundation (IPF) specifications. In short, this belt doesn’t mess around; it’s for people who are serious about their weight lifting exercises.

Our rating: 4.2 Star Rating 4.2 / 5

Pros

  • Made of a thick material and reinforced with steel
  • Buckle closes with a secure lever
  • Adjustable and available in 6 sizes
  • Built to IPF (International Powerlifting Foundation) specifications

Cons

  • Can be on the stiff side at first – will need to be broken in
  • Made of faux leather

The Rogue Ohio Lifting Belt is the perfect example of this brand’s dedication to quality. Rogue Fitness has always been a frontrunner when it comes to weightlifting equipment, and this belt in particular is a go-to choice for many. It’s made from vegetable-tanned American leather and has the standard 4” width, but nothing else about this product can be called standard.

I especially love that the Ohio belt is handcrafted, unlike the mass-produced competition that’s saturating the fitness market. The leather is not only pretty, but it’s a longer-lasting alternative for anyone who’s serious about strength training.

This belt is available in 5 sizes ranging from small to 2XL, and includes a single-buckle design for quick, easy adjustments and a custom fit. Because of its durability and use of high-grade leather,  just keep in mind that yours may require a brief “break-in” time for optimal contouring and comfort.

While the Ohio belt is one of the best out there, it’s also one of the most expensive. Rogue isn’t known for being a budget-friendly brand, so expect to pay more than $100 if you shop with them. Also, you’ll have to be $5 more for the larger sizes (XL and 2XL).

Our rating: 4-8 Star Rating 4.9 / 5

Pros

  • High-quality American-made leather
  • 5 sizes available
  • Single-buckle design
  • Ideal for serious strength training

Cons

Number 9 on the list is the Hawk Sports Lever Belt, which is marketed as a unisex belt but is more often used by women. It comes in just 3 sizes, which is less than the 5 or 6 sizing options offered by other products, but it still caters to a good range of waist sizes, ranging from 26 to 44 inches.

The lever belt comes in 3 color options - black, blue, and red - and it features a lever buckle that can be released quickly and easily. That means no fiddling around with the adjustments; simply flip it shut to your preferred tightness and start lifting.

The belt is made from genuine suede leather, so it's not the cheapest on this list, especially compared to nylon-made belts. However, it offers great value for money, and many reviewers have been pleased by its performance since it came available in April 2019.

The 4" width is protected by heavy-duty stitching, and the rounded edges mean that this belt won't dig into the skin, even when tightly worn. According to some, the sizing runs a bit small, so if you're between waist sizes, just be sure to order the larger one.

Our rating: 4.5 Star Rating 4.5 / 5

Pros

  • Durable belt with heavy-duty stitching
  • Easy to use lever buckle design
  • Genuine suede leather with 3 color options
  • Meets all powerlifting standards

Cons

  • Runs small, so you may want to order up a size
  • Less sizing options compared to competitors

Last but certainly not least is the Mytra Fusion Weight Lifting Belt for ladies. While it may seem a bit cliche, this belt only comes in pink, but it's a subtle pink that many reviewers rave about. There are 4 sizes available, ranging from small to XL, and the waist sizes range from 24 to 37 inches.

If you’re larger-bodied, you’ll definitely want to make sure that the maximum 37” on the XL belt is enough for you. Even the largest size is a lot smaller than XL belts from other brands, which tend to be closer to 50” when set to the max adjustment.

This belt is made from a combination of high-quality prime durable suede and full-grain leather, which is great for both comfort and support of the back and spine. It has a B-cross design that helps in reducing spinal flexion and promoting abdomen support during each lifting session. All in all, this is another great choice for serious lifters, especially if your budget is less than $50.

Our rating: 4.5 Star Rating 4.6 / 5

Pros

  • Suede + leather design is ideal for comfort and protection
  • Sponge cushioning lining
  • Dual stitching for improved longevity

Cons

  • Only available in pink
  • Even the XL size is fairly small

How To Choose Women’s Weight Lifting Belts (Buyer's Guide)

When looking for the best women’s weight lifting belts, these are the most important features to look for:

Width

The width of the belt refers to how big it is all of the way around. If you pick up a standard belt, you’ll see that from top to bottom, it’s the same (at least it should be). That’s the case with the best women’s weight lifting belts. They shouldn’t be wider in the back than the front.

You’ll often see some that are, but those won’t give you the proper support for your exercises. Instead, choose one that’s just as wide in the front as it is in the back. This will give the right amount of “squeeze” when lifting weights in your home gym. The standard width options are 4 inches and 6 inches; if you're short or prefer more mobility, a 4-inch belt is the better choice.

Material

The very best women’s weight lifting belts are made from leather. This is a strong material that can stand up to the pressures put on the belt while lifting heavy weights. As long as you treat it right, that leather belt will last a very long time.

Nylon belts are also acceptable, but this material doesn't have the same longevity as leather. When choosing one of the best women’s weight lifting belts made from nylon, take the time to ensure that it meets high standards for the next buying consideration (thickness).

Thickness

This refers to the thickness of the material. The best women’s weight lifting belts are around 13 millimeters thick. However, a slightly thinner one will do as long as you feel that it can give you the pressure and support that you need.

Avoid picking one that’s too thin; it won’t last as long as it should, and it certainly won’t support you properly while lifting in your home gym.

Fastener System

Look for the best women’s weight lifting belt that fastens with a buckle rather than a Velcro closure. There’s nothing worse than having your weight lifting belt come undone mid-lift. This is a great way to get hurt, especially if you have to put down the weights quickly in order to refasten your belt.

You can avoid this risk by choosing a weight lifting belt with a proper buckle that fastens securely. The very best women’s weight lifting belts come with holes inserted into them so that the fit can be customized based on your waist size.

Weight Lifting Belt Exercises

The best women’s weight lifting belts are designed to give you some additional support when you’re lifting weights, hence their name. If you work out in the standard gym or in a well-equipped home gym, the best weightlifting belts should be able to handle the following exercises:

  • Squat lifting
  • Deadlifting
  • Shoulder presses and flies
  • Curls
  • Leg presses and extensions
  • Powerlifting
  • Crossfit
  • And more!

Contour

A weight belt’s contour allows it to mold to your body for a more comfortable, more secure fit. Some belts don’t have any contour at all with material that is straight across all the way around, but others have a more shapely design that will better fit the contour of your back and stomach.

Comfort

Of course, you want to choose a belt that’s comfortable, both in terms of how it fits and what material it’s made from. For comfort, the material shouldn’t be scratchy or too stiff, and the fit should be snug enough while allowing you to breathe and move with ease.

Size

It's not often that you'll come across a "one size fits all" belt, and if you do, don't buy it! Instead, you need to choose a belt that’s sized properly based on your waist measurements. Generally, the sizes range from small to XL, but in some cases, you can find XS and 2XL options.

Benefits Of Using Weightlifting Belts

There are actually quite a few benefits that come along with using a weightlifting belt, but let’s focus on the 2 most important. First off, using a belt reduces stress on the lower back while you’re lifting in an upright position, and secondly, it prevents back hyperextension during overhead lifts.

Another reason to invest in a weightlifting belt is that it allows you to be more aware of the position of your back. The physical sensation of a belt against the skin makes you consider your back position and what muscles must be activated to maintain good posture, which ultimately reduces the risk of strain and injury.

How To Properly Wear A Weight Lifting Belt

A weight lifting belt is great for minimizing the risk of injury and adding support to your heavy lifting... but only if you wear it properly. Here are the exact steps for putting on your belt so that you can lift comfortably, and more importantly, safely:

  1. 1
Start by wrapping the belt around your waist. Ideally, the weightlifting belt should sit just above your hip bones so that it comes in full contact with the back, sides, and front of the torso. If you feel pinching or discomfort, chances are, the belt is in the wrong position.
  2. 2
As you inhale slightly, tighten the belt. The belt should be tight, but not to the point where you experience difficulty breathing. Your stomach needs to be able to expand so that you can create tension and brace, but it should be snug enough that it doesn't move out of place.
  3. 3
Begin to breathe and expand into the belt. The point of a weightlifting belt is to protect your body by allowing you to better engage the core muscles. The belt allows you to brace the core more aggressively. To do so, you need to take a deep breath into your belly as you flex your abs, and hold this position as you lift.

Frequently Asked Weight Lifting Belt Questions

What type of weight lifting belt is best for women?

While some nylon belts are up for the challenge of heavy-duty lifting, leather is undeniably the more durable material. If you want a belt that will last for years and offers great support, a leather belt is the best choice.

Also be sure to choose a belt that is designed with a prong buckle closure - avoid Velcro! Velcro isn't strong enough to stand up against heavy weight lifting, so a sturdy buckle design is a much better choice.

Should I get a 4 or 6-inch weight belt?

The standard sizes for women's weight lifting belts are 4 and 6 inches. While 6-inch belts offer more support due to their wider size, 4-inch belts allow for more mobility and movement. It's completely up to you, but if you have a shorter torso, which many women do, a 4-inch will probably serve you better.

When should I use a lifting belt?

If you're using weight lifting machines or lightweight dumbbells, then you won't benefit much from a weight lifting belt.

But if you're strictly into free weights and want added support for deadlifts, leg presses, squats, flies, curls, Crossfit, or powerlifting, then you'll definitely want to invest in a weight belt.

Conclusion

That concludes the list of the best women's weightlifting belts.

Hopefully, you are now able to pick the best belt that will meet all your weight lifting needs and add more stability and support to your workouts.
