Recently I’ve reviewed a lot of power racks, so this time I took the liberty to review something different. More and more people are wondering how to improve their abdominal muscles. After a little bit of research, you will find out that it’s not just crunches. There are actually machines specifically designed for multiple abdomincal exercises. So let’s take a closer look at one such machine, the PowerLine PAB21X Ab Bench.
PowerLine brand is well known in the fitness industry, they make a lot of fitness equipment. I’ve already reviewed one of their power racks and now we will take a look at one of their Ab benches. So what can you expect from PowerLine PAB21X?

People are often sceptical when it comes to ab machines, simply because they can do crunches, right? But I can assure that full spectrum of abdominal muscles cannot be trained with just crunches.
Package & Assembly
PAB21X is packed in one box, which weights around 46 lbs with dimensions of 37 x 18 x 37 inches. The machine was tightly packed, nothing was wondering around the box.
The assembly was very easy and it took me less than 30 minutes. If you are a small person you might need the second set of extra hands though, so it would be best if you had some friend helping you out. One downside was that the bolts were not marked properly. The only part where you need to be extra careful is with the pulley, so it won’t get cut or get twisted. Well that is basically it in regard to assembly.
First of all, the frame itself is not heavy, but it’s quite sturdy, even for a larger man.
After trying it I was surprised that despite the fact that the back pad is looking very firm, it is actually very comfortable on the back. It is, of course, adjustable and slides smoothly up and down after you ease the thumbscrew. The one thing that immediately caught to my attention was the back pad’s size, though. I’m 5’10 and while I was comfortable, a taller person might experience issues when trying to sit properly. Another thing that caught my attention was the sitting gap. It takes time to get comfy there.
I decided to try out the pulley and was quite surprised how strong it was and how smoothly it rolls, so no extra grease is needed to be applied. I’ve used 80 lbs total weight, made of 20 lbs standard plates and there wasn’t any problem. The back of your head is fully supported by straps when exercising. Straps themselves are very sturdy as well.
Pros & Cons
As with every item, even PowerLine PAB21X has pros, but some cons as well, so let’s get right to it.

In short, this is one good piece of equipment to get if you are up for some great abdominal core exercises. The PowerLine PAB21X is one small, sturdy & mostly comfy ab bench. While I would not recommend it to very tall people (6’2+), I would recommend it in general.
