Power racks are great for people like me, who prefer to lift weights in the comfort of their own homes.
However, there are so many of these devices on the market that it can be tricky to choose the right one. The cap barbell power rack, which I’ve recently tested out thoroughly in my home gym, is designed to do double-duty. It’s sturdy enough to use for resistance training, and you can place a weight bench inside and use it as a power rack.
In order to produce a thorough cap barbell power rack review, I tested this device for a total of 30 days, treating it as I would any type of workout equipment. The results of my testing are below, and I believe that you’ll be as pleased as I am with this device.

The cap barbell power rack is made by the aptly named CAP Barbell company. They make a number of different types of fitness equipment, all of which are designed for use in a home gym. CAP has been in business for over 25 years, and they specialize in bringing the regular gym into your home gym.
Some of their products include power racks, weight benches, anything that you need for weight training (kettlebells, dumbbells, weight sets), and resistance bands, push up bars, medicine balls, and plyo boxes. These are just some examples. If it’s a type of fitness equipment, CAP makes it.
They sell their devices and equipment to gyms across the country, both standard ones and home gyms, thanks to their five different U.S. fulfillment centers: Los Angeles, California; Houston, Texas; Chicago, Illinois; Newark, New Jersey; and Savannah, Georgia.
Power racks, like this one, are used by dedicated weightlifters, as well as people like me who like to get in a full workout. I do cardio exercises one day, followed by full weight training the next. That’s why I like to have the cap barbell power rack in my own home gym. I can go for a run and then spend the next day lifting weights.
Power racks are designed to provide you with a safe way to lift weights. All that you need to do is attach the right types of hooks, pull a weight bench into the center, and then perform your workout. If you lift something that’s too heavy, the power rack works like a spotter. This means that you can test your performance in your own home gym. And why not? I certainly do.
Feature Summary:
Now, it’s time to go over the features in order to paint a full picture of this device for the cap barbell power rack review. The cap barbell power rack weights 60.6 pounds. It measures 50 inches wide by 46 inches deep by 85 inches tall. It’s made of both 12 and 14 gauge steel, making it very strong.
The steel tubes are welded together with the help of mounting plates, which make everything very secure. Those mounting plates even have mini gussets, ensuring that you won’t have to worry about the power rack collapsing in on itself while you workout in your home gym.
Every open end of the steel tube structure is sealed off with a cap. This provides some additional support while ensuring that the steel won’t begin to oxidize from the inside.
The device comes with bar catches, but no additional extras, and it has a reinforced top bar that’s specifically designed to double as a resistance training tool.
It definitely holds my self-weight with little problem. The exterior of the cap barbell power rack is silver, and it has been triple powder coated to ensure that this piece of equipment will not be susceptible to any scratches or dings.
Even better, the silver color matches many other pieces of work out equipment, ensuring that it will blend in with your other home gym equipment. In addition to this, the cap barbell power rack holds a maximum weight of 300 pounds.
Exercise Options
Since the cap barbell power rack is simply designed, it can work as either a resistance training device or as a power rack.
In power rack mode, you just need to place a weight bench (anyone will work, although I like the Cap Strength Mid-Width Bench) inside of the power rack.
You can then use the device to safely lift weights in your home gym without the help of a spotter. The power rack is there to provide support, should you lift something that’s too heavy.
As a weight training device, the cap barbell power rack supports me through deadlifts, curls, squats, and more. Basically, it can handle just about anything.
The cap barbell power rack is also designed to hold self-weight. This means that it works well as a resistance machine.
I can hook up ab rings, ab straps, and even resistance bands in order to get in a full workout. I can do chin ups, pull ups, and all sorts of exercises on it, thanks to the tough construction and the height of the top bar.
These resistance exercises allow me to use my entire weight (155 pounds, for the record) as a weight. This gives me quite a workout! And it’s much safer to use a power rack for these exercises in my home gym than it is to attach a pull-up bar to the back of a door or to a wall. I don’t have to worry about the cap barbell power rack buckling under my weight or the wall anchors falling out.

Comparison Vs. Similar Rack
Now, in this section of my cap barbell power rack review, I’m going to compare this device to a similar piece of home gym equipment, the Body Champ Power Rack. Both of these power racks hold up to 300 pounds, and both have a top section that doubles as a workout bar. The main difference is that the Body Champ rack also works as a storage device.
It is designed to hold Olympic weight plates. In addition, this power rack is a combination of black and blue, while the cap barbell rack is silver. These differences are minor. In reality, both pieces of equipment are very similar. They work the same way and can handle many of the same workouts. It all comes down to the cap’s superior construction.
