I don’t know about you, but I like to work out in my own home gym. I recently purchased a power rack to give me some additional support when lifting. This Impex Marcy Power Rack review is a result of my findings, as I like to spend time going over the aspects of everything before making a purchase. This power rack is no exception.
Home Gym is Your Friend
Before I go into the details in this Impex Marcy Power Rack review, here’s what you need to know about me. I’ve been lifting for several years now, and although I first trained in a traditional gym with an expert, I now do my body-building in my home gym. I’m male, weigh 150 pounds, and can quite a bit more than my own body weight. I don’t like to brag (too much!), so I’ll spare you some of the details on exactly how much I can bench press. Those details aren’t needed in my Impex Marcy Power Rack review. What you do need to know is that I am not a fan of traditional gyms. I like being able to work out in a familiar setting with my own equipment. When I’m working on my body-building at home, I don’t need to worry about other people hogging the weights that I want to use, or leaving sweaty marks (that they don’t clean up) on the equipment. Working out at home is much more sanitary, and, for lack of a better word, it makes me feel sane.
The problem with lifting weights at home is the fact that I don’t have anyone to hover over me, doing spot checks, in case I pick up a weight that I can’t handle. This is quite dangerous, which led me to purchase the piece of equipment that I’m featuring in my Impex Marcy Power Rack review. With a power rack, I don’t have to worry about the weights being too heavy, leaving me in a precarious state. The device, like other power racks, is designed to catch the weights for you. If you lift something that’s too heavy, you can just set it down on the rack. It’s like having a built-in spotter – one who doesn’t talk or criticize you.
Before I continue on with our Impex Marcy Power Rack review, I need to go over the exercises that you can do with it. This is important since you need to understand just how useful this piece of equipment really is. It comes with an attached weight bench, giving you a place to lift barbells and do bench presses. On the back section, which is higher than the front (we’ll go into this in a bit more detail in the features section), you can do chin-ups and pull-ups.
The lower front sections are perfect for hanging knee and legs raises, as well as dips. This versatile bench can support you do barbell shrugs; barbell curls inverted rows, close grip bench presses, overhead presses, and bench presses. You can also do the following body-building exercises: cable crunches, cable rows, upright rows, rack pulls, squat lifts, rack lockouts, lat pulldowns, barbell bent over rows, and even cable pulls throughs. Really, it can handle any number of exercises. Trust me; I’ve put this piece of home body-building equipment through its paces in order to complete this review!
About The Marcy Gymnasium Equipment Company
Now, before I get into the features section of this Impex Marcy Power rack review, I need to say a little something about the company that made it. The Marcy Gymnasium Equipment Company has been in business for over 50 years. It was started by Walter Marcyan (the shortened form of “Marcy” was used to make the name of the company easier to pronounce), a winner of the central AAU Light Heavyweight Lifting Championship back in the 1930s. He then went on tour with a vaudeville company, entertaining audiences with his weightlifting prowess. Soon after that ended, Marcyan started a fitness training facility chain, and then branched out into making home gym equipment for people who were into body-building. He called the Marcy Gymnasium Equipment Company. It’s still in business today and is known for its high-quality home gym equipment, such as this power rack. The company makes a number of other fitness essentials as well, all of which are for people who spend their time body-building in the comfort of their own homes.
Features of Impex Marcy Power Rack
Now for the most important part of this Impex Marcy Power Rack review – a discussion of the features. This power rack is made out of steel. The metal is 12-gauge and three inches thick. While this makes this piece of body-building equipment quite heavy (it weighs a whopping 183 pounds, it also comes with an attached weight bench, and built-in safety catches. It can support up to 450 pounds of weight.
Another important thing to point out in my Impex Marcy Power Rack review is the fact that it consists of an open cage design. This means that it consists of several different levels, ranging from lower in the front to higher in the back. Unlike other cages that are entirely enclosed, you won’t feel claustrophobic in this one. The open design makes it easier to use the weight bench for your body-building exercises.
The attached weight bench is fully adjustable. This is one of my favorite things about the Impex Marcy Power Rack. I don’t have to worry about finding a compatible weight bench. The seat pad adjusts in a number of different ways, making it easy to handle various exercises. On command, (well, by “command” I mean that I manually adjust it) the seat can be placed on an incline, a decline, perfectly flat, or even in a shoulder press formation. The seat attaches to the bench using the Marcy Gymnasium Equipment Company’s patented quad linkage system. What does this mean? Well, this piece of home gym equipment moves around on the frame, making it easy to adjust its position for the many exercises that I listed above.
I do need to mention in my Impex Marcy Power Rack review that this piece of equipment comes with a pull-up and two handles for completing dips. It also has wheels, so that you can move it around your home gym space as necessary. It comes with safety catches, just in case you need them, as well as a space for optional attachment. The people at the Marcy Gymnasium Equipment Company really thought of everything.
Finally, I have one more thing that needs to be mentioned in this Impex Marcy Power Rack review – the device comes either with a chrome finish or a matte black one. This detail matters for people who want their home gym equipment to coordinate.
