Runners know that there are two main times of day to get out there on the trails – morning and evening. The afternoon is too hot (well, during the summertime anyway), and nighttime is too dark, making it unsafe.
This leaves them with two options – but which one is the absolute best? Do the benefits of running in the morning really outweigh the benefits of running in the evening? Let’s go over both options here in order to see which one wins this battle.
Running in the Morning
When it comes to the benefits of running, you’ll find that the morning has a number of advantages. You’ll be able to hit the trails (or the treadmill) before most people are up, so traffic won’t be as bad.
This will make your commute to the gym or the park that much easier. If you prefer to work out while outside, then the morning is the best time, due to the beautiful sunrise and scenery. Many wild animals, such as birds, are out in the morning, so you might see them along your path. In addition to this, running in the morning gives you a good start to your day.
Running in the Evening
However, there are plenty of benefits of running in the evening. The first of these is the fact that it helps you sleep better at night since there isn’t much time between your post-run cool down and bedtime. It can also help your stress levels since running is therapeutic.
Plus, it will give you something to look forward to after work. Everyone needs a little boost towards the end of their day, and an evening jog can be yours.
Choosing the Best Time of Day for You
Although there are some advantages to running in both the morning and the evening, what you really need to do is determine which one works best for you. Do you prefer to sleep in and spend some time relaxing before you go to work? If so, then you’ll probably enjoy that evening run the most.
On the other hand, if you like to get up early and get your workout over with so that you don’t have to deal with it for the rest of the day, then a morning run is perfect. When it comes to the benefits of running, what really matters is whether or not it fits your lifestyle and your schedule.
