What to Look for When Buying an Adjustable Weight Bench
There are several factors to consider before purchasing the very best weight bench for you. I’ve outlined them below:
Possibly the most important factor to check into is the construction quality. Most benches are made of steel, but not all steel is created equal. Depending on the gauge, some steel materials are thinner and weaker than others.
You want to choose a weight bench with a heavy-gauge and reinforced steel frame - the lower the gauge, the thicker the steel. This usually goes hand-in-hand with having a higher maximum weight support, but that is not always the case.
Naturally, the bench must be able to handle your weight. When checking maximum weight support, from my own experience, I’d go at least 25 pounds heavier than your current weight to ensure complete sturdiness and support.
So if you currently weight 225 pounds, the bench should support at least 250 pounds. And don’t forget to add the weight of dumbbells or other equipment that you plan to use while on the bench.
Size can be tricky. Some manufacturers give dimensions only for the already assembled benches, while others will provide unassembled dimensions. Make sure you know the assembled dimensions in flat position to be 100% sure it can fully accommodate you in every position.
Seat and back-pads of the best adjustable weight benches are cushioned and padded, but some have more padding than others.
However, a thicker pad isn't always better; just like the mattress you sleep on, it simply comes down to your own preferences. Some people prefer thicker and softer pads, while others prefer thinner and firmer ones.
Most potential buyers want lots of adjustability when getting an adjustable bench. This makes complete sense... If you are about to purchase a weight bench, why not take advantage of the fact that most of them can be adjusted to accommodate a wide range of exercises?
If you decide to go for adjustability, be sure to check if it comes with all the desired incline / decline degrees and positions for the exercises you plan to do. Also, check to see how the bench actually adjusts and whether or not it's convenient and easy to do.
Some weight benches come with add-ons like a sit-up bar or foam rollers, while others might come with an entire frame for challenging yourself with chest presses. If you want add-ons like these, make sure that is it either attachable to your bench or it comes directly with it.
You may find a bench that is superior in every factor to others you’re considering, only to find out that it costs significantly more. This is why I recommend setting your budget first, then only consider benches that fit within that budget.
Just keep in mind that adjustable benches are typically more expensive than flat benches. It's a small price to pay for greater comfort and versatility, though!
Okay, you’ve picked your bench, but you're unsure about some of the features.
Checking the product warranty is a good way to know how much time you have to return the bench in case you're not fully satisfied. Careful though, a technical warranty is not the same as a return warranty, so be sure to check into both. If the policy is not specified, you can check with the manufacturer directly.

1. Vanswe 800 lbs Adjustable Weight Bench (2019 version)
- 【800 Lbs Weight Capacity】Vanswe weight...
- 【2.5" Soft Foam Padding】2.5" thick foam...
- 【Fully Adjustable...
- 【2022 Upgraded】Added a removable leg...
Vanswe is no stranger in the fitness equipment industry and this brand's adjustable weight bench is one of the best on the market.
As the name suggests, the weight support of this particular bench is 800 pounds, which is above standard compared to other non-commercial benches. The high weight capacity is all thanks to the heavy-duty 2.75” x 2” powder coated steel frame.
Regarding adjustability, it features 7 back positions (5x incline, 1x flat, 1x decline) and 3 seat positions. This means you have full adjustability to cater to basically every exercise that can be done with a weight bench.
It is covered in a high quality 2.5” thick foam padding. I love that the pad is both firm and thick, and it's also quite large with dimensions of 12" wide by 32.5" long. The assembled bench dimensions are 61 x 22.2 x 18.1 inches and the empty weight is 51 pounds. It comes with transport wheels for easy portability.
The warranty on the padding is only 3 months, but the good news is you'll have 3 years of coverage on the bench frame. My only complaint is that the distance between the back pad and seat pad is a bit too wide for my liking, but this is only really the case when the back is adjusted to the full declined position.

2. Ironmaster Adjustable Super Bench
- SUPER STRONG 1000 LB RATED. Heavy duty,...
- QUICKLY ADJUSTS TO 11 ANGLES WITH PATENTED...
- MULTI FUNCTIONAL, PROVEN DESIGN. Ideal for...
- SOLID WARRANTY AND SUPPORT WITH OVER 35 YEARS...
The only commercial-grade adjustable weight bench on this list is made by Ironmaster.
This particular model is made of 11 and 12-gauge commercial steel, which is supposed to withstand 1000 pounds of weight. The entire frame is powder-coated in metallic gray with chrome components. In terms of sheer durability, this one is the winner.
The bench offers 11 adjustable positions, ranging from fully flat to incline to decline. The cushioned pad is made of heavy-duty stitched vinyl and measures 44” x 10” x 3”. The seat is a bit small, so if you're a larger individual, you'll definitely want to take that into consideration. On the flip side, the bench itself is longer than average, so if you're tall and lanky, it's an impeccable choice.
The main feature that sets the Ironmaster bench apart from others in its class is the patented foot lever. To make your adjustments to the seat/back position, just press down on this lever from either side of the bench - it's that simple!
The assembled dimensions are 44 x 18.8 x 21 inches and the empty weight is 65 pounds. The warranty policy is better than average with 10 years coverage on the frame and 1 year for the upholstery. All in all, this is a champion of a weight bench!

3. Gymenist Exercise Bench
- NO ASSEMBLY NEEDED: The bench comes fully...
- ADJUSTABLE: This bench can be adjusted to all...
- We also included a free cushion for the back...
- Folding Exercise Bench: Great traveling bench...
The 3rd bench that made it to the list of the best adjustable weight benches is made by Gymenist.
The Gymenist exercise bench is foldable and easy to store thanks to its compact design. The bench supports up to 550 pounds of weight, which is less than similar models, but still plenty for most people. Considering the affordable price, it's a great option if you're on a home gym budget.
The bench comes practically assembled; you just need to tighten the bolts and it's ready to use. It can be adjusted to various positions, including incline, flat and decline. The back features 6 adjustable positions while the seat can be adjusted to 3 positions.
The seat pad and back pad are padded and comfortable, and Gymenist even offers a free cushion for the back if you're a fan of additional padding. The back pad’s width is 11 inches at the lower part, 12 inches at the middle portion, and 9 inches at the shoulder-neck portion.
There have been some complaints of the padding loosening over time, but that's really the only downside of this affordable adjustable bench.

4. Goplus Adjustable Weight Bench (GP36441)
- 【Great for a Full-Body Workout】Goplus...
- 【Adjustable Bench】This sit up bench can...
- 【Soft & Comfortable Design】This weight...
- 【Sturdy and Durable Frame】This adjustable...
The 4th weight bench that made it to our list is manufactured by Goplus.
Goplus didn't skimp in the manufacturing process; this bench used heavy-duty commercial grade steel as a frame. However, due to its compact size, this model (GP36441) has the lowest weight support of just 265 pounds. The good news is that they offer 4 different variations that can handle up to 330 pounds if you're looking for additional support.
The biggest difference between the Goplus weight bench and others on this list are the pads. It features a 3-pad system: a seat pad, back pad, and head pad. All 3 of them are cushioned and quite comfortable and consist of soft leather filled with dense foam, although for some, they might be too soft.
The bench offers a number of adjustable positions, including decline positions. With 5 optional positions, it doesn't have as much adjustability as the others, but it still allows for a wide range of exercises. It also comes with a foam roller for ankle support.
The assembled dimensions (flat position) are 44” L x 15” W x 22’’ and the bench itself weighs 31 pounds. If you want something compact and don't mind a lower weight capacity, it's an excellent choice.

5. FLYBIRD Adjustable Weight Bench
- Fashion Adjustable Bench; Fashion Design With...
- Fast Adjustment With Simple Methods; Designed...
- High Cost-Effective Bench; Used 9.7 In Width...
- Save 80% Space; Flybird Foldable Bench, Easy...
The adjustable bench by FLYBIRD is a great compromise between commercial quality and cheaper non-commercial benches.
Similar to Vanswe bench, this one offers 4 seat positions and 6 back positions. I appreciate that the part of the bench that is commercially-graded is the steel frame, and chances are, you will too. The max supported weight is 600 pounds, which is just above average.
The soft synthetic leather seat and back pad is filled with dense foam padding, which is quite comfortable. The bench is completely foldable, so it's easy to store under a bed or in a closet when not in use.
The assembled dimensions are 49.2 x 15.7 x 44.5 inches and the assembled empty weight is 26.6 pounds. There is no assembly required whatsoever with this one, so you can start using it right out of the box.
One important thing to note is that the manufacturer lists this bench as fit for up to 5'9". Personally, I think it's suitable for individuals up to 6' or 6'1", but just keep that in mind if you're a taller individual.

6. Bowflex 5.1S Stowable Bench
- Space-saving design
- 6 different adjustment angles for total...
- Seat adjustment for maximum exercise options...
- 600-pound load capacity
Next up on the list is a weight bench made by Bowflex. We're all familiar with the Bowflex name, so if you want a bench from a reputable brand, this is definitely a contender.
The bench frame is made of heavy-duty commercial-grade steel and the total weight support is 600 pounds. It is a fully adjustable bench with 6 optional positions, including decline, flat, 30°, 45°, 60°, and 90°. It also features a leg-brace holster, which is removable if you don't have a need for it.
The bench has large cushioned back pad and seat pad. It's also foldable, so it's "stowable" just like the name suggests. The bench itself is pretty heavy, weighing 70 pounds, but this is mostly due to the commercial-grade steel. The assembled size in flat position is 56″ L x 26″ W x 20″ H, so you'll want to confirm you have the space in your home gym.
Like most Bowflex products, this isn't the cheapest option out there. Another flaw that's worth noting is the larger than average gap between the pads, so if you're small in stature, consider that before buying.

7. Merax Classic Adjustable Workout Bench
- [500lbs Weight Capacity] Effortlessly...
- [Fully Adjustable Bench] Designed with 7 back...
- [Bonus Resistance Bands] Resistance bands can...
- [Spacious Surface & Compact Design] Spacious...
The 7th bench that made it to our list of the best weight benches is manufactured by Merax.
The Merax bench's frame is made of heavy-duty powder coated steel that has maximum weight support of 500 pounds. Thanks to the compact and foldable design, it takes up very little space when folded.
This is one of the most affordable benches on the list, but it's also one of the most adjustable. It can be adjusted to 7 different back positions and 4 seat positions, and it even has 3 adjustments for the feet. This means you can fully customize your workout, all without breaking the bank.
Both pads are quite comfortable and wide enough to accommodate even bulkier people. The width of the seat pad is 11 inches, while the back pad’s width is 14 inches. The assembled dimensions in the flat position are 41″L x 16.5″W x 17″H.
The main complaint has to do with the bench's decline position. When laid completely flat, it's not the most comfortable. Plus, making adjustments isn't as smooth as pricier models due to the somewhat mediocre locking system.
8. Body-Solid BFFID10
- Combination flat, incline, and decline bench...
- 5 starting positions, from 10-degree negative...
- Compact and portable design is ready to use...
- Safety pins and bolts allow bench to be...
The last but certainly not least member of our list is an adjustable bench made by Body-Solid, model BFFID10.
The frame is made of steel with a powder coated finish. This particular weight bench adjusts to 5 positions, ranging from 10 degree decline all the way to 70-degree incline, including the lay-flat position. It can be adjusted using the safety pin system, which is easy to use and super secure.
This isn't the cheapest option by any means, so I was slightly disappointed to find that there are only 5 adjustments available. However, these 5 adjustments allow for a great variety of workouts, and the ease of making changes to the bench's position makes up for it.
Similar to many others on this list, the BFFID10 is foldable and can be compactly stored. The pads are cushioned - although not much - and the seat pad is 9.25 in x 11.25 inches, while the back-pad is 9.5 in x 28 inches. The complete assembled dimensions are 54.5 x 18 x 17 inches and it weighs 43 pounds, so these are all fairly average features.
The manufacturer also offers a 3 year warranty period on the frame and 1 year on the rest of the parts. All in all, this is a great choice if you're willing to pay a bit extra for Body-Solid's extreme durability.
